Engaging with the progressive mind
I was prompted by an excellent article by Nigel Biggar today to post a redacted version of a conversation I had on Substack yesterday.
Many of my friends have told me they have difficulty engaging with people of the opposite cultural or political viewpoint because of the bias among some people of views they don’t accept, and the worrying extremism of their attitudes to those with whom they disagree.
The conversation below was prompted by a response from a follower to an article I posted on the current lawfare against veterans proposed in the forthcoming Northern Ireland Act.
After the initial response from this individual - yes, his/her name is Ahelms Tub; I’ve redacted the email address - I thought I’d engage with the individual to see what response I got. The exchange follows. Ahelms’ text is in red.
Do all ‘progressives’ wish their opponents dead, and consigned to hellfire? Or is this individual simply ill? I’ll leave you to decide.

He strikes me as both mentally ill and terminally dim.
Fascinating. A troll rather than a bot then. Doing some research recently it appears that Gen Z and Gen Alpha have strong socialist aspirations but without the understanding or research to back up their views. Perhaps too much time in early formative years on digital platforms owned and curated by hostile states like Tik Tok and Discord. Russia’s active measures playbook is to subvert societies over a 20-30 year epoch so perhaps we are reaping what they sowed years back?
