I’m sure you’ll all be pleased to hear that guidl is building a 75-guidl tour of the Western Front Way, the brainchild of Sir Anthony Seldon and put into effect by Rory Forsyth and the team at Waytrails. The Western Front Way meanders across the length of the old trench system for 1,000 km between the English Channel and Switzerland, a distance that Anthony covered in his walk a couple of years back and which is commemorated in his marvelous book, The Path of Peace.
guidl, as you all know by now, is a fabulous new platform and app of which I am a co-founder, designed to provided short audio snapshots of special places. Anyone can register with us to upload your own guilds about places that are special to you. We now have over 230 guild Creators and hundreds of brilliant guild tours already uploaded. An example of one guidl tour I’ve created, on Operation Chariot, is here:
Each of the 75 stops on the trail will have a guild audio, each less than 10-minutes, presented by an historian, guide or expert on aspects of the battle. So far we’ve got offers from three First World War historians and we’ll be adding their audio recordings to the tour over the coming weeks. Anthony has kindly agreed to prepare two, as is the wonderful John Nichol, whose remarkable book about the Unknown Soldier and the work of Rev David Railton has just been published.
If you or anyone you know wants to contribute PLEASE let me know. I’ll send you a list of those places still requiring an audio, and all you need to do is send it across as an MP3 file. Don’t be shy!
The front of the guidl tour is here:
What a great initiative. I have just started reading The Path of Peace and already captivated by it. Guidl will be a superb companion to this book.
