On a long flight to India last week I read and enjoyed a fabulous account of 130 Brigade’s war fighting as part of 43 Wessex Division from Normandy to Bremen between June 1944 and May 1945. In fact, I can’t recommend this highly enough. Its the best sort of military history; tightly written, engaging, not bogged down in too much superfluous detail and concerned principally with telling the stories of some of the men who fought to free Europe from totalitarian oppression in the great moral crusade of the Second World War. They did their duty and did it well.
Written by the son of 18 Platoon author Sydney Jary, this story of 3 West Country battalions is first class and is highly recommended. You can purchase a copy at the Dorset’s museum at the Keep, here.
Do so. You won’t be disappointed.
