Audio guiding on the 'guidl' app
Do make use of guidl. Its a brilliant new app that needs your support!
Hopefully most of my readers will know that I helped co-found guidl last year. Its a place where historians and guides can upload audio stories about places that are important to them. We have about 250 historians and guides building tours, but would love many more to do so. Its free! As we grow, momentum is key, so it would be fabulous if as many people as possible downloaded the app (search for it on the app store), listened to the guidls on the platform but, even more importantly, contributed guidls of your own. Its easy. Just let me know and I’ll arrange for the software, password and instructions to be sent to you.
To give an example of what I’ve been doing, I’ve recently created two tours covering the capture of Mandalay Hill by the 19th Indian Division in March 1945, and another detailing the attack on Fort Dufferin. Snapshots of both are below, to give you an idea of just how brilliant guidl is. You don’t have to be with me as we wander over Mandalay Hill (though that would be good; I’ll be back there in February 2026); instead, you can sit at home with a map on your knees and listen to the guidls at your leisure.
There are lots of fabulous guidl tours already on the platform, but we’d love thousands more. If you are an historian or guide, or simply are someone who knows a lot about a particular place, register with guidl today (email me at robert@guidl.tours), download the software and start building your own guidl tours, FREE!
Its not just about battles, though…
Very interested in the house on Bute as I look into ancestral ties to the isle!
This lovely house is owned by the wonderful Landmark Trust
